Waterford will 'Party Like It’s 1999' in two sold out skating shows

Waterford Tricenturena Skating Club will be partying like it’s 1999 on Saturday, April 6.
There will be two carnival shows at the Waterford arena, 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. for the club’s 54th annual skating party “Party Like It’s 1999.”
More than 160 skaters from Waterford and Simcoe areas will be showcasing the hard work they have put into their lessons over the season.
“We look forward to welcoming over 700 guests – our annual carnival is truly a community event,” said Meaghan Tompkins, carnival chair, noting both shows sold out 2-3 weeks ago.
“Last year we sold out at the shows. The club has grown over the last year, but we did not anticipate selling out two weeks before. We do not have any tickets left – it’s definitely something new for us.”
Music in the two-hour skating shows (30 numbers in total) will be from the decade of 1991-2000.
“Most of the parents are likely from around that generation, so we were trying to entice the parents to be a part of it. So it will be TV theme songs, movies, and music that were popular in the 90s.”
It will include the Friends theme song, Spice Girls, Back Street Boys, and Jurassic Park. The program assistants, who have been helping skaters throughout the year, will be skating to Men in Black.
“When it’s Cotton Eye Joe, you can see all the kids getting into it. Everyone’s dancing along, getting excited for the music. It’s been fun. The first couple of weeks we played it, the entire ice just started dancing. It just gets everybody up and moving,” Tompkins said.
