“It was quite exciting for our school, that was the first time we’ve ever won the girls (CWOSSA hockey) title,” said Holy Trinity coach John Bramer.

“We entered a couple AAA tournaments and I think that kind of turned up the dial for us,” said Bramer. “The girls really started to gel together and I think it was going to those tournaments in Brantford and Kitchener, getting the girls playing together. Our lines are really working good, chemistry-wise, and we’re getting strong goaltending. I think we’re really coming together as a squad.”

The forechecking and the defensive game were both sound, said Bramer.

“We’re playing our game. I think we’re really pushing to do well at OFSAA.”

In the afternoon, undefeated Holy Trinity defeated Centre Dufferin 5-1, while St. David shut out Kincardine 6-0.

The championship final was knotted at 2-2 when St. David scored with one minute left in the third period.

“We were kind of stressing out,” said Titans’ captain Aviah Bramer.

The first four-skater overtime was scoreless.

“In the second overtime, just before the shootout, there was three-on-three,” said Aviah, who scored the game-winner with two minutes remaining in DOT, assisted by Sophie DeDobbelaer. “I missed my breakaway. Sophie picked it up and passed it back to me on my backhand and I kind of just shot it in.”

A deciding shootout was not necessary.

“OFSAA’s a really, really big show…  we expect really good teams. But we’re doing off-ice training, just getting all the girls ready. I think we are ready.”
