Thunder lead WOSHL with 7-4 win in Orangeville

Tillsonburg Thunder kicked off back-to-back WOSHL weekends on the road Saturday with a 7-4 win in Orangeville.

After a slow start, trailing 2-1 in the first period, Andrew Tapsell scored twice in the second period, including a power-play marker to push Tillsonburg ahead 3-2.

Andrew Whalen notched Tillsonburg’s game winner six seconds into the third period on a power play, assisted by Sheldon Thompson and Jamie MacQueen, who is fifth in league scoring.

Thompson closed out the scoring with 5:15 left to play, just 19 seconds after Orangeville’s Daniel Pulcina had narrowed Tillsonburg’s lead to two.

The Thunder, first in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League, outshot the Blitz 59-20.

Tillsonburg will be on the road once again Saturday, Dec. 16 when they travel to Delhi to face the Flames at 8 p.m.

The Thunder are back at home on Saturday, Dec. 23 when the Woodstock Lakers and league-leading scorer Kevin Hu, 34 points in 10 games, come to the Kinsmen Memorial Arena.

Delhi defeated the Lakers 5-2 in Woodstock on Saturday. Goalie Benjamin Blacker faced 46 shots in the victory.

Josh Labelle, Nick Pastorious and Chris Donnelly gave Delhi a 3-0 lead within the first eight-and-a-half minutes in a strong first period.

Woodstock’s Hu scored his 20th goal of the late in the second period.
