London Lynx defeated the Dorchester Dragons 4-3 in a pre-season exhibition game that included six Tillsonburg area players – Grace Baird, Sydney Court, Reegen Lindie, Taylor Lisabeth, and Maxx Schnekenberger, who all skate with Dorchester, and Lynx Mackenzie Anderson.

If they were hoping for an exciting game, they got it. Dorchester’s Lauren Lindsay knotted the score at 3-3 with three minutes left to play, and London’s Chloe Ryall replied with the Lynx game winner 46 seconds later, flicking in a low wrist shot from the slot.

“As an association we are attempting to bring more recognition and understanding of what ringette is in Tillsonburg,” said Tim Hurley, Tillsonburg Ringette Association president. “We will be hosting a few more (games) this season.”

Tillsonburg’s ringette season is just starting up. The local association has 60 girls registered in Learn to Skate (U7), U8, which has a full team, U10 and U12.

“It’s the same number of teams this year,” said Hurley, “but the mix was a little bit different. Last year we had a U16 team. This year, all of our teams are younger. But moving forward, all of our registration has been quite strong with the younger ages so we’re looking forward to continuing that trend and being able to fill the older age gaps in the future.”

The first practices, which begin tonight (Sept. 18), include ‘Come Try Ringette’ and that introduction program will continue the rest of the month.

“Anyone is welcome to stop by,” said Hurley. “Typically we have some of the girls bring their friends.”

Come Try Ringette sessions were held at the end of the 2018-19 season, and more recently a few weeks ago. A Come Try Ringette session will also be held in Delhi on Sept. 29.

Western Region league games begin mid-October.

“Registrations are still open,” Hurley noted. “Our teams are not quite full but they are certainly healthy this year. We have room for a few more.”
