The Lambton-Kent Cardinals lead the A division in the LKSSAA senior girls’ soccer league with a 5-1-0 record after winning twice this week against the Pain Court Patriotes (3-3-0).

The Cardinals won 3-1 Tuesday after Taylor Poland and Karissa McLachlin each scored twice in Monday’s 4-0 victory.

Lily Allado and Gracie Vandergriendt scored for the AAA division-leading Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks (4-0-0) in a 2-1 win over the Ursuline Lancers (2-2-0). Abby Stonehouse scored for Ursuline.

Olivia Orr scored for Tilbury (2-2-1) in a 1-1 tie with North Lambton (3-1-1) in the A division.

Wallaceburg (0-4-1) lost 4-0 to Great Lakes (1-2-0) in the AA division.

Northern (3-0-1) won 3-0 over Lambton Central (0-4-1) in a AA/AAA matchup.

Ursuline, Northern clash for top spot

The Ursuline Lancers and Northern Vikings were tied for first place in the AAA division of the LKSSAA senior boys’ soccer league with 4-0-0 records going into Wednesday’s game at Ursuline.

The Vikings were coming off Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks (2-2-1).

Chatham-Kent tied 0-0 with St. Patrick’s (2-2-1) Monday.

Gregory Ansell scored twice for Pain Court (1-1-1) in a 2-2 draw with Lambton-Kent (3-1-1), which had goals from Konnor Smith and Kurtis Smith in the A division game.

Tilbury (1-3-1) lost 4-1 to North Lambton (3-1-0) in another A matchup.

Wallaceburg (1-4-0) lost 3-2 to Great Lakes (1-2-0) in the AA division.

Negri, Zomerman, Rivest win twice

Ursuline’s Emma Negri, Chatham Christian’s Jeramiah Zomerman and Lambton-Kent’s Kinser Rivest each won two events at Saturday’s Lancer Prep track and field meet at the University of Windsor.

Negri won the junior girls’ discus with a record throw of 40.85 metres and the shot put with 11.26 metres.

Zomerman won the senior boys’ high jump (1.95 metres) and triple jump (12.49 metres).

Rivest won the novice boys’ 100 metres (12.36 seconds) and long jump (5.54 metres).

Ursuline’s Gavin Meriano won the senior boys’ 400 metres (51.74 seconds), Chatham Christian’s Julia VanMinnen won the senior girls’ high jump (1.58 metres) and Chatham-Kent’s Bridgette Kovacs won the novice girls’ discus (22.48 metres).

Lancers defend volleyball crown

The Ursuline Lancers’ spring team has won the Southwestern Ontario under-18 boys’ regional volleyball league championship for the third straight year.

They completed a 42-0 season Sunday by sweeping Big Bruce 25-7, 25-15 in the final and Stratford 25-12, 25-20 in a semifinal.

The season consisted of four tournaments in April and May.

Nick Oslund, Gibby Dunlop, Luke Chickowski and Cristian Suffi were the Lancers’ top players in the final tournament.
