Eleven days after he collapsed during practice and left the rink in an ambulance, Flames defenceman TJ Brodie of Dresden returned to action against the Penguins on Monday in Pittsburgh.

This is a pressure-packed business, but Brodie’s medical emergency served as an important reminder-of-sorts.

“After everything, it sort of gives you a different outlook,” the 29-year-old blue-liner said after Monday’s morning skate at PPG Paints Arena. “One thing I noticed is you have to try to enjoy the game more. It’s a game. It’s supposed to be fun. Playing professionally, it’s easy to treat it more as a job, but I think getting back to having fun is key.”

Brodie logged 24:01 of icetime against the Penguins, the second-highest total on his team in the 3-2 overtime loss.
