HUB-CAP: Moose Jaw Warriors celebrate Ryder victory

A two-goal outing by Yorkton-born Ryder Korczak powered the Moose Jaw Warriors to Friday's WHL victory over the Swift Current Broncos.

Ryder Korczak’s two-goal, one-assist, first-star performance powered the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 6-2 victory over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday at the Brandt Centre — the WHL’s East Division hub.

Riley Krane added a goal and two assists for Moose Jaw (7-7-1-0), which also got goals from Logan Doust, Eric Alarie and Daemon Hunt.

Jordan Borysiuk and Josh Davies replied for Swift Current (3-11-1-0), which got 26 saves from Isaac Poulter. Moose Jaw’s Brett Mirwald stopped 27 shots.

In Friday’s early game at the Brandt Centre, the Regina Pats‘ Connor Bedard scored both goals — including the winner 49 seconds into sudden-death play — against the division-leading Brandon Wheat Kings.

He was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round (17th overall) of the 2019 NHL entry draft … Bedard is one point ahead of Krebs in the WHL’s scoring race … The Raiders’ lineup also boasts a first-rounder — Ozzy Wiesblatt (4-13—17), who was chosen 31st by the San Jose Sharks last year … Jakin Smallwood (10-6—16) leads the Ice in goals … Winnipeg has the WHL’s second-best power play (36.5 per cent) and leads all East teams in penalty killing (85.2%).

8 p.m.: Saskatoon Blades vs. Moose Jaw WarriorsSaskatoon (10-2-2-0) snapped a three-game losing streak, which included an overtime loss, Thursday by defeating Prince Albert 5-3Tristen Robins (8-11—19) had a goal and three assists against the Raiders on Thursday … Ex-Pat Caiden Daley (6-6—12) is having a strong season for Saskatoon. Even in a shortened, 24-game season, Daley is likely to set a WHL career-high for goals. His peak total, so far, is nine goals in 68 games with the 2018-19 Wheat Kings.
