LETTER: HPCAC provides update on Hollinger operations
Article content
Good day, just a small update regarding the Hollinger open pit.
Noise monitoring confirms compliance 93.4 per cent of the operating hours at all the internal monitoring stations.
There were no overpressure or vibration exceedances reported for November and December 2021.
There was one non-continuous dust fall exceedance recorded in November 2021. Now that spring is just around the corner, there will be dust but you need to remember that it can be caused by high winds and the overabundance of sand on the city streets and roads. If it’s a hot dry summer, the winds will carry a certain amount of dust.
Once the snow is all gone, operations will resume with the water trucks on the haul road.
In the coming months, the committee will be working with Newmont staff working the open pit to engage on the future plans for the closure phase when the time comes.
The lookout is 98 per cent complete. There are a few things that still have to be done before the opening of the lookout, pending the spring thaw at the end of May or beginning of June.
Look for an announcement soon from the company and the committee.
We hope that everyone takes advantage of the lookout to see an actual mining operation at work.
The summer blasting times are in affect: 11:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wishing you all a great and wonderful summer.
