The University of Guelph has struck a search committee to hire a new forage researcher.
Ray Robertson, the manager of the Ontario Forage Council, said the council took the lead earlier this spring, convening a meeting of forage and livestock industry to make the case that Ontario needs a forage scientist.
“The forage council is really concerned about the lack of forage research here in Ontario,” he said. Relying on research information done in other places is no substitute for research conducted in local soil and climate conditions.
The “good news a few days ago,” is that a committee has been formed to hire a forage researcher. The process typically takes months, as candidates are recruited and interviewed.
