Wild Wing is on its way to Simcoe.
The newest sports bar in the community will open Aug. 20 in the former Pizza Hut building at the corner of Queensway East and Gilbertson Drive.
Darsh Solanki of Brampton is general manager at the location.
He and his wife, Sej Solanki, were on the lookout for a family business when the Wild Wing opportunity arose.
“We came to this franchise because it’s a good one, and we like it,” Sej said.
Simcoe was on a list of locations where Wild Wing was looking to expand, and the Solankis came to town to check out the available locations.
“We saw the location, we came to the town and liked it, so we decided to come here,” said Sej.
The couple say they are excited to introduce the community to the business.
“It’s a sports bar, everybody wants to eat and drink beer,” said Darsh. “People love sports bars.”
The menu has 101 flavours of chicken wings to choose from.
High rise tables, a bar, and multiple flat-screen TVs are set up inside of the restaurant. Patrons can expect to find whatever sports games are on to be played on the TVs.
Preparing to open a dine-in restaurant throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has not been ideal.
“It wasn’t the exact opening we envisioned, but we still want to have (normalcy) when we actually open our dine-in,” Darsh said in an email.
“Opening a restaurant during a pandemic has been an experience for all. A lot of setbacks that normally would be a faster process have caused small bumps in the road,” he continued. “We have had support from all directions including head office and their safety protocols.”
Those protocols include having the tables distanced, ensuring all staff are wearing face covers, increased sanitization, and wellness logs for employees. Guests, who will be required to wear face coverings when not at their tables, will also be asked for contact tracing information.
Some staff members have already been hired, but resumes are still being accepted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
