A father may have saved the life of his 13-year-old daughter after she was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Norfolk Road 23 in Houghton last week.
Police and paramedics responded to the emergency around 1 p.m. Friday.
Norfolk OPP say the father immediately began CPR after retrieving the girl from the bottom of the pool. Following treatment at a local hospital, the victim was taken to hospital in Hamilton.
“We urge all Ontarians to take personal responsibility for ensuring water safety for themselves and their children, which includes basic safety practices such as learning to swim at an early age or wearing a life jacket or a personal flotation device while on a vessel or swimming,” Insp. Joe Varga, chief of the Norfolk OPP, said in a news release.
“Young children or non-swimmers should always wear a personal flotation device while in or near the water in case they become in distress. This can make the difference between surviving or not.”
