The Norfolk General Hospital Foundation announced Tuesday that five Tim Hortons locations in the area participated in the fund-raising effort, generating a total of $63,553.

“We are deeply moved by the generosity shown during this year’s Smile Cookie campaign,” said Emma Rogers, CEO of the foundation.

“The community’s support year after year is instrumental in helping us deliver exceptional healthcare.”

Rogers thanked all the Tim Hortons teams that participated, along with the volunteers that assisted in cookie day.

She said getting a new mammogram at the hospital will be “transformative” for the community, ensuring women get the best possible care.

“The success of the Smile Cookie campaign is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Norfolk County.”

Hortons franchises participating included those in Delhi, Simcoe, Waterford and Port Dover.

Rogers pointed out that, beginning in the fall, women as young as 40 will be using the mammogram screening program which could double the demand for the images.

Mammography allows hospitals to maintain early detection of cancer and comprehensive care for the surrounding residents.

The Smile Cookie campaign began in Hamilton in 1996, with funds going to the Hamilton Children’s Hospital. Since spreading across Canada and the USA, the annual campaign has raised more than $111 million for charities that are selected by the restaurant owners.
