OPP West Region Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said emergency services responded to Turkey Point at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, police learned that the boy left a floating device that he was on just off Cedar Drive in Turkey Point and attempted to swim back to shore. Family members contacted police when they were unable to find their son, Sanchuk said.

“We searched through the entire night,” Sanchuk said on Sunday morning.

The Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit is en route to aid in the search, he said.

The boy has long, dark, shoulder length hair and was wearing a blue shirt with a multi-coloured logo on the front and blue and white shorts.

Assistant Norfolk Fire Chief James Robertson confirmed firefighters were assisting in the search.   Also assisting are Norfolk OPP, OPP Aviation Services, OPP Marine Unit, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton. Norfolk paramedics also responded to the scene.

Updates will be provided when available, Sanchuk said.
