OPP Festive RIDE campaign underway

Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police laid several charges and arrested three drivers during the second weekend of the province-wide Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign, which runs to Jan. 2, 2019.
On Nov. 30, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Oxford OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 59 at Greenly Line, Norwich Township, when a vehicle attempted to avoid going through the check point.
The vehicle was stopped and two 18-year-old male passengers and the 18-year-old male driver were charged with the following offences under the Liquor Licence Act and the Cannabis Control Act: Person under 19 years having liquor; and Person under 19 years possessing cannabis.
The driver also faces a further charge of: Driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act.

On Dec. 1, just after 12 a.m., Oxford OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Broadway at Venison Street in Tillsonburg when a suspected impaired driver was stopped at the check point.
Through investigation, OPP arrested a 32-year-old man from South-West Oxford Township and he was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: Driving while ability impaired (alcohol); and Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
Also on Dec. 1, at approximately 1:45 a.m., an Oxford OPP officer conducted a traffic stop on Plank Line at Salford Road in South-West Oxford Township. Through investigation the 19-year-old male driver of the vehicle, from Tillsonburg, was arrested and he was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: Driving while ability impaired (alcohol); and Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
He was also charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offences: Use plates not authorized for vehicle; Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner; and Novice driver – Blood-Alcohol Concentration (BAC) above zero.
Also on Dec. 1, at approximately 9:22 p.m., Oxford OPP officers responded to a complaint of suspected impaired driving in the area of Broadway and Bridge Street in Tillsonburg.
The vehicle was located and a traffic stop occurred on Bridge Street. Through investigation a 78-year-old male driver, from Tillsonburg, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: Driving while ability impaired (alcohol); and Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.
