New TV show seeks homes to renovate

Deserving Brantford residents get a chance to win a home renovation with HGTV Canada’s new show.
Big Home Overhaul, hosted by ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey, is looking for candidates in Brantford and the surrounding area to be on the pilot season. The show is produced by Proper Television, which also produces Masterchef Canada, Canada’s Worst Driver, Mary’s Kitchen Crush and Last Stop Garage.
“What makes our show different is that the people who are selected don’t apply to be on the show, they are nominated by their loved ones in the community,” said casting producer Michael Barrick.
He said the show is looking for people who put themselves second and everyone else first and who are known for giving back in their volunteer or fundraising work. The show is also looking for interesting personal stories of overcoming adversity.
“We’ve already talked to some people who have given us some pretty amazing stories of their lives,” said Barrick.
The eight one-hour episodes will be airing spring 2020.
Renovating the homes will be “well known HGTV Canada contractors and designers,” said Barrick.
