Fatal collision on Highway 24

Speed and non-use of a seatbelt are being cited as contributing factors in a fatal crash on Highway 24 east.
Police, paramedics and fire and rescue services were called to Highway 24 between West Quarterline Charlotteville Road and Forestry Farm Road at 7:23 a.m. Friday morning.
The vehicle was travelling west when it entered the north ditch and hit a culvert, sending the vehicle airborne. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The road remains closed for the investigation.
Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said the investigation is still underway but early indications are that speed and lack of seatbelt use are factors in the fatal crash. “Wearing a seatbelt will save your life,” he said.
The identity of the man is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
“It’s not going to be an easy day at all today,” Norfolk OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posting on social media. “We want to put a reminder out to everybody to please slow down, pay attention to your driving. You’re eventually going to arrive at your destination, but we need everybody to slow down and pay attention.”
