The Timmins Public Library will be hosting local author Kevin Vincent for an Author Talk on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at the Main Branch, for a special reading from his popular book, City of Thieves.

Having arrived in Timmins in 1984, Kevin Vincent has spent decades chronicling the history of gold theft in northern Ontario, with works in journalism, filmmaking, and as a published author. His two non-fiction books, “Bootleg Gold Volume One and Two,” explore the lucrative world of gold smuggling with a special emphasis on Timmins. Kevin also produced “Timmins: The First 100,” a 90-minute film about the city’s first century of mining life.

His latest book “City of Thieves,” is his first work of fiction, drawing from stories of Timmins locals and the library’s local history collection to tell captivating tales of the city’s vibrant past. Although fictional, these stories are all inspired by anecdotes from decades of interviews from his work in journalism. It is the first installment of a series, with another collection expected to be released later this year.

The Timmins Public Library invites community members and media to attend this Author Talk and book reading, which will feature discussions about the local history of gold smuggling, as well as offer an opportunity for local history and true crime enthusiasts to learn more about the subject.
