Two major series have been greenlit to shoot in the Calgary area, offering a major boost to Alberta’s film and television industry in 2021.
They include Guilty Party, a CBS series starring actress Kate Beckinsale, and Paramount Television’s Joe Pickett, which is presumably based on the bestselling novels by C.J. Box.
Both productions will be opening production offices soon in Calgary and are looking to start work in the first quarter of 2021, said Luke Azevedo, Calgary’s commissioner of film, television and creative industries. Both are “good-size shows” that will employ “hundreds of Albertans,” he added in an email to Postmedia.
According to the entertainment news site Deadline, Guilty Party is a half-hour dark comedy being produced by CBS Studios in association with Funny or Die and Mosaic. Beckinsale was announced as a replacement for Australian actress Isla Fisher in mid-December. Fisher was set to star and executive produce the series, but Deadline reports that she dropped out due to “pandemic-related circumstances.”
