“From Vic Cicansky’s ceramic canning jars to Mary Pratt’s print of Jellies, Gathie Falk’s recent still life paintings and Greg Curnoe’s wine region-inspired, lettered watercolours, the exhibit celebrates the everyday, delighting the senses and highlighting the beauty of intimate moments and shared meals,” said Jennie Kraehling, the gallery’s associate director.

In the middle gallery is a small exhibition of rare paintings and drawings from the estate of Brian Jones, who died in 2008, including a painting of his wife, Susanne, a former London Free Press arts reporter, who died Aug. 2 of a rare cancer.

The exhibition includes the last remaining Brian Jones paintings and drawings from Susanne Jones’ personal collection.

Early Neighbours drawings for his popular painting style that depicts people during moments in their everyday lives — walking the dog, shovelling snow, swimming or raking leaves — two small paintings and a major portrait of Susanne are in the exhibition.

The portrait of Susanne Jones “captures an intimate moment of Brian’s then girlfriend and soon to be wife while she sunbathes on vacation in Cape Cod.”

“It is a remarkable painting and exemplifies Brian’s incredible eye for detail,” said Kraehling.

Brian Jones, born in 1950 in Chatham, studied at H.B. Beal technical school and apprenticed briefly with renowned artist Jack Chambers. His work is in several major public collections, including Canada Council Art Bank, Museum London, McIntosh Gallery, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Province of Ontario and City of Toronto Archives, and in corporate and private collections.
