ANNANDALE BALL DIAMOND UPDATE

Due to ongoing reconstruction of Concession Street East, the Town of Tillsonburg made the difficult decision on Thursday, May 10 to limit public access to the Annandale ball diamonds until June 8.

Friday however, there was some good news.

“I’m pleased to say that Town staff and the contractor have found a solution that will facilitate the return of scheduled league play on Monday, May 14 after 6 p.m.” said Rick Cox, Director of Recreation, Culture and Parks, in a media release.

“Yesterday was a difficult day for everyone,” said Mayor Stephen Molnar. “No one wanted to see the diamonds closed at this point in the playing season - especially Council and Town staff - but the fact remains there were significant player safety issues that had to be addressed. Those conversations have happened and now we’re moving forward again.”

“There was understandable frustration on the part of the user groups affected,” said Cox. “But we’ve talked through those issues and once the installation of safety fencing is complete, the regularly scheduled league play will be able to resume on Monday night.”

“The area is still an active construction zone so we’re asking for the public’s cooperation in avoiding the area until the fencing is in place, and heeding the defined access routes for games,” said Molnar.

Access to Annandale Diamonds 2 and 3 will be via Parkwood Drive, while Demeyere Ave. will provide access for Diamonds 4 and 5. The Kinsmen canteen washrooms are still unusable but portable toilets are on site.

“Tournament and weekend special events are still on hold pending further review,” said Cox. “But holders of contracts for those events will be provided with an update no later than Thursday, May 17.”
