Sunny 'summer-ish' day for Ladies' golf opener

Mae Moffat - Bunker to Bunker

2018 may well be the year remembered as the year we had no spring. We went from snow and freezing rain directly to warm summer temperatures. Regardless, we are happy to see and feel the warmth of the sun and leave behind the memories of a long cold winter.

Such was the opening day for the Tuesday Lady Golfers at The Bridges at Tillsonburg on the First of May. The morning started with cool temperatures that quickly escalated and had the ladies shedding their outer layers. It was a gorgeous day for golf.

The 18-hole ladies played for the total on Par 3s. Bobby Lamers was first with 17, Carol Livingston was second with 18 and Phyl Lawrence was third with 19. Carol Livingston had a birdie on hole #2, Phyl Lawrence had a birdie on hole #5 and Holly Reynolds had a birdie on hole #9.

Twenty-Nine 9-hole ladies played for low putts on holes 3, 5, 7 and 9. Dorell Clark, Mary Fassaert, Mae Moffat and Mary Jane Barth tied for first with six putts. Ruth Jones, Mary Delouche, Mary Wiltshire and Linda Newman tied for second with seven putts.

And so, we are off to what we hope will be a wonderful summer of sunshine and great golf. Don’t forget to record your Ringers and Putts on the boards provided in the change room, as well as your birdies on the “birdie board.” Also report those birdies to the conveners.

See you on the greens.
