CIBC Tillsonburg branch buys 'Meals on Wheels' meals for a day

CIBC Tillsonburg's monthly Acts of Kindness may be called 'random', but after four or five years the 'random' has become routine.

This year they stepped up to purchase all of the meals for the local Meals on Wheels program delivered on Wednesday, Dec. 13, and helped with the delivery.

"We've been volunteering for Meals on Wheels for about three years now," said Phuong Tran, CIBC Senior Financial Services Rep. "This year what we wanted to focus on was the Random Act of Kindness, and focusing on the elderly community."

"We're also doing Senior Care Packages for 360 seniors," noted Andrew Gillingwater, CIBC Manager of Financial Advice. "So (on Dec. 21) we will be visiting the seniors, who might not necessarily get a Christmas gift, just as a Random Act of Kindness, doing something nice for them in the holiday season."

"Meals on Wheels is part of what we do to give back," said Tran. "We paid for all the meals today (Dec. 13), for all the routes - in the Tillsonburg, Straffordville and Norwich area."

"Not just our area," Gillingwater nodded.

"Almost 200 meals," said Tran.

"I think there's four routes in Tillsonburg, and the other communities as well," said Gillingwater.

The funds were raised at the Tillsonburg branch through their Community Giving program.

"We've done a lot of dress down days throughout the year to help the Multi-Service Centre," said Tran. "We do Meals on Wheels every month - so we always have a route once-a-month from our branch."

Gillingwater said they hope to make the Dec. 13th 'paying for all the meals' an annual event.

"This is the month we really focus on seniors," said Gillingwater.

Other organizations that have benefited from CIBC's monthly Random Acts of Kindness include the Canadian Mental Health Association, Haldimand-Norfolk Women's Shelter, the Helping Hand Food Bank, Upper Deck, Junior Achievement, Greyhound Relocation & Adoption Canada (GRA), and Back to School Programs.

"I'd say we've been doing the Random Acts of Kindness for about four or five years," said Tran.

CIBC Tillsonburg also recently completed their annual toy drive, donating the toys and stuffies to Ronald McDonald House in London.

"We actually just did that last week," said Gillingwater.
