Oxford County Public Health brought the Red Scarf Project to Woodstock in honour of World HIV/AIDS Day on Friday, Dec. 1.

On Friday morning staff tied red scarves knit by volunteers to trees and lamp posts in Museum Square to mark the occasion.

Each scarf has a tag attached that contains information about the HIV/AIDS virus along with information about how to get tested in Oxford County.

The red scarves symbolize the red ribbons often associated with HIV/AIDS awareness.

Public Health staff said anyone in need of a warm scarf is welcome to take one and is encouraged to keep the conversation going about the illness.

The red scarf project was conceived six years ago by the Region HIV/AIDS Connection in London has has since expanded to other centres in the region, including Sarnia and Stratford.

This is the fifth year Oxford County has participated in the project.
