First-place Thunder win fourth in a row

The Tillsonburg Thunder are on a roll after 6-2 win last Saturday over the Petrolia Squires. This makes the fourth win in a row and puts the Thunder in first place in the WOAA Senior Hockey Division.

Kevin Galerno led the way with two goals and an assist. The Squires had no answer for the Galerno, Nathan Peacock, and Chad Barclay line as that line chalked up seven points on the night and totally dominated in the Squires' end throughout the game.

The Thunder jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period with goals by Galerno (4:13) , Corbin Bean (8:11) , and Galerno (13:34) again. The Squires answered with a late goal by Rob Van Wynsberghe (14:43). The Thunder continued to pour it on in the second with goals by former Squire MVP Kraig Wright (6:33), Peacock (8:16), and returning Thunder defenceman Ryan Fletcher (12:39) with his first of the season.

The Squires added a late goal in the third by Owen Rogers (16:34) for a final score of 6-2. Final shot count was Thunder 33, Squires 46.

Thunder goalie Tommie Lee stood on his head a couple of time to somehow keep the puck out. Thunder defenceman Carl Wilson was voted Player of the Game by the team with a heroic save on the goal line and took a puck in the chest making a save when Lee was sprawled out in front of him.

Squire tender Brandon Campbell played extremely well, too, behind a depleted Petrolia lineup. He was seen patting the goal posts on several occasions as the posts stopped more than a couple of shots.

The Thunder are on the road next Friday, November 3 playing the Elora Rocks. The Rocks have had a slow start this season being 0-4-1, but have been in most games.

The Thunder return to the Thunderdome on Saturday, November 4 for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop versus last year’s champions, Clinton Radars. The Radars have added to their strong team and are looking to three-peat, but the Thunder look to upset their plans. Clinton is only two points behind Tillsonburg at this early stage so the game looks to be a classic.

November 4 is Student Night so all students are free at the Kinsmen Memorial Arena. Tickets will be given out at all Tillsonburg and area schools this week. If any student does not get a ticket, come anyway. The Thunder will not turn any students away.
