Cooking oil management firm makes Canadian debut in Bysham Business Park

A new eco-friendly firm is taking a frying leap into Canada and landing in Woodstock.

Filta Environmental Kitchen Solutions announced last week it's setting up shop in Woodstock's Bysham Business Park.

The commercial fryer and cooking oil management service helps restaurants, universities, hospitals and other kitchens extend the life of their cooking oil by filtering it and making it reusable.

Filta Canada franchisee coowner Daniel Overbeek said no other company in Canada offers this service and their business is booming already.

"The only services that restaurants are provided is the removal of cooking oil, while we actually micro-filter it down to two microns and put it back into their fryer," Overbeek said, doubling the life of eateries'oil from three to six days.

"Being environmentally friendly is one of the biggest things we have, because we extend the life of their oil," Overbeek said. "We are a complete managing service... we deep clean their fryers, taking all of the particles out of there, strip it down and clean it 100 per cent so the fryer looks brand new. Then we put the filtered oil back in.

"So now restaurants... don't have to have their (used) oil bins outside," he said.

"The biggest advantage to the customer is that they never have to touch their fryers, at a minimal cost," Overbeek said. "We can potentially save customers money... The oil savings offset the cost of the service."
