Collision closes 401 for three hours in SWOX

On Tuesday, July 18, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound, South-West Oxford Township.

The collision occurred when a box truck travelling westbound on Highway 401, collided with the rear of a tractor trailer also travelling westbound. The impact of the collision resulted in the box truck striking the center median. The box portion of the truck then blew apart on impact sending debris across all westbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the box truck was taken to area hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the tractor trailer was not injured. There were no passengers in either involved vehicle. Oxford Emergency Services (EMS) and South-West Oxford Fire Department attended the scene to assist.

The highway in the area between Foldens Line and Plank Line was shut down for several hours to assist with the clean-up. Highway 401 westbound was re-opened at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The male driver of the box truck, Frank Calia, 45-years-of-age of London, was charged with Careless Driving.

Cell phone taken from unlocked vehicle

The Ontario Provincial Police Oxford County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves after a vehicle entry was reported at a Broadway, Tillsonburg address.

On Thursday, June 13, at approximately 11:21 a.m., police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. Through the course of investigation, it was determined that a vehicle was parked in the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot with the windows down when an unknown individual reached through the window and removed a Samsung Galaxy S5 cellular phone.

Here are some tips to prevent you from becoming a victim:

Always secure your vehicle doors when parking your vehicle, even if you are only going to be a few minutes.

Remove valuables from your vehicle. If you can't, then keep them from plain view.

Park in well lighted areas with high traffic.

Clean out your garage and park your vehicle in it - locking your vehicle and the garage door.

Remember, if you see something, say something. If you see suspicious activity or behaviour around your vehicle or neighbourhood, report it.

Vehicle entry on Charlotte Avenue

The Ontario Provincial Police Oxford County Detachment is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would be thieves.

On Thursday, June 13, 2017 at approximately 7:01 a.m., police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle on Charlotte Avenue, Tillsonburg. Through the course of investigation, it was determined that in the early morning hours, unknowns attended the address and gained entry into an unlocked vehicle. Once inside, unknowns removed a toque, gloves and a pair of prescription sunglasses. Also taken form the vehicle was a wallet that contained personal and financial information.

Police investigate mischief to Tillson Avenue residence

The Ontario Provincial Police Oxford County Detachment is investigating an act of mischief on Tillson Avenue.

On Wednesday, July 12, at approximately 11:56 a.m., police were contacted by a resident reporting a mischief. Through the course of investigation, it was determined that in the early morning hours, unknowns attended the address and spray painted the residence and a detached garage.

OPP are continuing to investigate and is seeking the assistance of the public. If anyone has any information they are being asked to contact the Oxford County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The OPP are reminding all residents to secure and lock their sheds, garages and outbuildings and to contact police immediately if they observe any suspicious activity.

Man charged with impaired

The Ontario Provincial Police Norfolk County Detachment charged a 22-year-old male after police investigated an incident on Highway 3, Middleton.

On Sunday, July 16, 2017 at approximately 5:43 a.m., police were contacted by Norfolk County Paramedics regarding a driver of motor vehicle. As a result of investigation, police charged 22-year-old Justin Robert Chadwick of Norfolk County, with driving over the legal limit, novice driver-blood alcohol concentration above zero and driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

He was scheduled to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.
