OPP enforcing weight restrictions between March 1 and April 30

Commercial drivers are being warned that members of the OPP, the West Region OPP Highway Safety Division and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will be out in Oxford County enforcing weight restrictions.

The initiative, which is running between March 1 and April 30, is designed to assist in reducing road damage to township and county roads by enforcing laws as they relate to overweight vehicles.

The bylaws includes that during the months of March and April no person should operate a dual axle tank truck, used exclusively for the transportation of liquid or gaseous heating fuel, or a two-axle truck, used exclusively for the transportation of livestock feed on a highway were any axle transmits to the highway a weight in excess of 7500 kilograms.

Nor should they operate a commercial motor vehicle or trailer where any axle of such commercial vehicle or trailer transmits to the highway a weight in excess of 5000 kilograms.

Nor should they operate a vehicle having a carrying capacity in excess of 1000 kilograms other than a motor vehicle or trailer where the weight upon any millimetre in the width of tire exceeds five kilograms.

The Township of Zorra by-law begins two weeks earlier, commencing on February 15 and continues along with the rest of the county to the end of April.

Police and MTO will be continuing with this initiative in Oxford County until April 30.

Each township has designated roads for use and the secondary roads have clearly posted signs advising of the weight restrictions.

A complete list of the roads and further information is available on the County of Oxford website: http://www.oxfordcounty.ca/Services-For-You/Roads/Moving-permit
