Oxford County Animal Rescue holding kitten and cat adoption and crafts event

Article content

It’s a chance to do some Christmas shopping and potentially bring home a new member of the family.

For the second year in a row, the Oxford County Animal Rescue will be holding its annual Crafts, Bling and Things and Kitty Adoption Day.

The local rescue holds a kitten and cat adoption day every month, but Saturday’s event will act as its last fundraiser of the year.

In addition to selling crafts from local vendors, the event will feature a silent auction and a raffle.

Foster coordinator Anna Holmes said all of the funds raised by the event will directly help all of the animals at the rescue.

“We’ve had some cats and some animals that have come into the rescue this year that have cost us a little bit more, and because we are not-for-profit, we fundraise constantly,” Holmes said. “The money goes directly to the animals, it goes to their care. So whether we pay for vetting, the cats when they come in are all de-wormed, flea treated and FID and FELD tested, so that we know that they’re healthy. They are also spayed and neutered at six months.”

Dogs that come into the rescue are also spayed and neutered, given a microchip, heartworm tested, as well as de-wormed and flea tested.

Holmes said the rescue does not approve of giving away animals as gifts.

“We frown on people who want to come in and pick a pet up as a surprise for Christmas, because then we get surprised again in two or three months when they get returned to us,” she said.

Anyone looking to adopt a cat or kitten will have to fill out an application and speak with the cat director.

There are around 45 cats in foster through the Oxford County Animal Rescue.

The event will take place on Sat., Dec. 10 at 885 Nellis Street in Woodstock from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
