Everyone has to agree we have had an exceptional autumn.

This fall has been outstanding weather-wise. How many Novembers have you been outside in short sleeves? If you have been anywhere on the road the past couple weeks you know you will never find such a beautiful array of hues and shades anywhere. The colours this year have been remarkable, much more vivid and radiant than the past few years.

We need something exceptional to clear our palate of the repulsive taste left by American politics. Well, we have just the thing to extend the enjoyment of our phenomenal autumn and to purge all that nasty stuff. Well, two, actually. The recent quenching of the 108-year drought of the Chicago Cubs gives hope to all Toronto Leaf fans everywhere. Never give up!

You don’t have to wait years to find an exceptional alternative and it’s much closer to home. Next weekend, November 19 and 20 artists and crafters in the village will be opening their homes for the annual Welcome Back to Otterville studio tour. It’s a pretty big deal around here and brings in visitors from all over the place including Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, London, St. Thomas and all places in between.

We are very proud of our studio tour because we have unique handcrafted jewelry, woodwork, décor, cards, bird feeders and seed, as well as, original oil, acrylic and watercolour art. All the participants have been working hard to bring you new and unusual creations for your home and outdoor spaces. This show is perfect to get you started on your Christmas shopping. You will find wonderful ideas at all price levels and for all tastes.

We have a couple new studios this year. Ralph Moore and Sons will feature bird houses and a variety of home grown birdseed. Nordale Woodworking showcases solid wood furniture and outdoor poly furniture. Stix and Skids features upcycled decor, wreaths, signs, etc. We welcome these shops and studios. They bring new, interesting items and add so much creativity to the tour.

In Bloom Designs has returned this year and feature lively and earthy jewelry with gemstones, mixed metals and exotic woods. Mae Leonard has a whole bunch of new, distinctive paintings in her barn to show you. She is always a favourite on the tour. Lianne Todd has one of a kind water colour paintings and digital art reflecting nature’s patterns on display in her studio. Shirley Hokke presents her latest modern conceptual paintings.

I have seen some of Sue Goossens latest works and they are fantastic. She did some travelling this year and has works depicting some of her favourite images, landscapes, architecture and florals, in water colour on paper and canvas.

Trudy Verberne will again be at my house showing her amazing, intricate, handmade cards, collector boxed cards and gift tags for all occasions. She will be happy to adapt any design to your specific needs.

Some of my oil paintings are drying as we speak. I have quite a few new ones so stop by for a visit.

Welcome Back to Otterville studio tour, November 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come visit our lovely, rustic village. Look for the yellow flags which designate the participants on the tour. Otter Creek Golf Club will be open for lunch. See you then.
