Two Cents Worth

A lot of folks are suffering these days.

Life is hard for many of us. We all complain about the cost of hydro, heating, filling up the car, insurance, food and I could go on and on.

Many of us have to do without things we want in order to pay for the things we need. Can’t do without heat or hydro. We need our vehicles to get to work. Rent or mortgage payments have to be paid if we want a roof over our heads. Might not buy prime rib but we can sometimes fill our stomachs with hamburger and rice.

In today’s society, possessions or wants, have become essential so there are many levels of gratitude. For many being thankful becomes a much different issue than for others. We have to look in entirely different places in our lives for factors in which we can be grateful. We have to find, sometimes well hidden, treasures in our existence to be pleased with.

Some have fancy cars, boats or cottages, impressive homes and furnishings, luxury vacations and exotic travels. Some have jobs which provide them with enough money to pay a mortgage or rent and make car payments.

Some families barely have enough to make ends meet and can feel they are getting farther and farther behind even though they are working hard, often at more than one job, trying to give their kids the necessities of life, food, clothing and a roof over their head. They may not dare to even think about university or college right now.

There are the poor, sick and elderly, who through no fault of their own, are forced to live on government hand-outs, food banks and such. I know, not everyone who lives that way should but there are some who have no choice.

No matter our circumstances, dire or privileged, we all have our pain and suffering. Money and advantage do not provide personal happiness nor do they eliminate feelings of loss, rejection, sadness and hurt.

We all, regardless of wealth or need, have much for which we can be thankful. It isn’t about the cars, designer clothes or steaks. It isn’t about the cash or lack there of. It’s about you. Your ability to laugh, to share, to give, to love. It’s about finding the good in each person you meet. It’s about being the best you possible. It’s about the people you surround yourself with, family, friends. It’s about honesty, loyalty, caring, joy. It’s about all the blessings God has given you, none of which cost a cent.

Have a super Thanksgiving weekend and be thankful that you are!
