It was time to renew my license plate sticker. I remembered to include on the notice all the proper information. Usually, I have to run to the van to check the odometer reading and insurance information. This time I had it all on the form. I was ready.

After getting my E-test done, I went to my local Service Ontario location and looked in the door. There were four chairs, all filled, and a man standing at the door. I decide to go and pick up some bread and check out some of the stores instead of standing inside the door looking at the people already in the tiny space.

When I came back some half hour later the chairs were still filled, by different folks, and there were two people standing at the door. I snuck into a corner by the pamphlet display shelf to wait. Actually, I chatted with the lady sitting in the chair just in front of me. She was there for a health card. Another gentleman explained the over 80 test he had to take. Somehow what he was expecting was not what he had received in the mail so he was there to rectify the situation. Others were waiting to renew their licenses. One was a young man who never thought to offer his chair.

As I stood next to the shelf I took one of the pamphlets which explained how we could tell Service Ontario how they were doing. We all had a giggle over that one. It also stated how you could go to the website to renew your sticker right up to the expiry date. I thought about that for a minute but I was already in the line, right?

The person at the counter finished up and left. One of the chair occupants was next in line. I took his chair. The health card lady was next to go to the counter. Soon another woman came in and took up a position at the door.

We now had a chair empty and the gentleman at the door suggested the woman take it but she declined and told him to go ahead but he also declined. About this time two men came to the door and looked in.

I decided maybe the online idea was worth a try. I had a couple weeks before my due date anyway and soon there was not going to be enough air for all of us to breathe in that cramped, hot space, so I said I was going to do it on the computer and took my leave. That would give both men outside the door chairs since the two standing apparently didn’t want to sit.

When I got home I weighed which I would rather do and decided to cut the grass and leave the computer stuff for later. Those form things always seem to befuddle me but I thought I would try, and if it didn’t work I could always go back into town another day.

I was very surprised at how easy it was. I love it when they guide you through with simple and clear instructions and point out any mistakes in a kindly manner. In a matter of minutes I had it done and my receipt printed. My sticker should arrive in plenty of time but I have the notice as proof.

It’s nice to know sometimes things do work - even government things.
