There’s nothing good to watch on TV.

That’s a comment we hear often. I guess it depends on your meaning of the word good. A lot of shows are reruns for a better part of summer and that might be what some folks refer to. I like reruns. It gives me a chance to see programs I didn’t get to watch during the regular season. And maybe I have a different term of reference for what’s good.

On Friday night I went to watch Otterville’s own Rick Verberne race in the Aggregate Truck Series in the Great Canadian Race at Delaware Speedway. It was kind of the big hurrah of the season. Rick defended his 2015 championship admirably but with some mechanical issues early on he will have to wait until next year to regain the title. Friday night we saw the time trials and heat races which set up the big show for Saturday. Rick won the first heat and came from dead last to second place in the second. It was a good night for all the classes.

The weather complicated things, and the races on Saturday were postponed until Sunday. That gave me a whole day to myself. Since it rained all day it was a good time to catch up on some housework. I watched the world news on TV while eating breakfast.

It was a busy day. I changed the beds and washed the sheets. With the rain I had to use the dryer instead of hanging them on the line but I hung up the rest of the laundry all over the house.

I did up some vegetables for the freezer.

I primed canvas and back painted for the Welcome Back to Otterville Studio Tour in November. I will tell you more about that at a later date.

In between my busy days I watched or listened to the TV. It wasn’t just any old thing that was on, I picked the shows purposefully, which included the NASCAR Infinity Race which was won by Eric Jones. I listened to all the pre-race chatter then stopped to watch the horse race at Woodbine. I loved it when the only filly, Tepin, beat all those big, puffy boys in 1:34:13. It doesn’t take long to watch a horse race.

CPAC was showing the senate hearings on changes being made to the method RCMP members can use to report and deal with harassment. It is unsettling to realize all power and control is systematically being taken away from them and eliminating all organizations who can speak on their behalf. It was disturbing to hear specific incidents of subtle and overt intimidation, persecution and sexual harassment going on within the RCMP. I am sure it is much the same in a lot of organizations.

I did watch as the featherweight class was decided in :19 and saw Johnson whip Poirier in 1:32 of the first round of the UFC fights. I checked in on the Blue Jays from time to time, as well.

Who says there is nothing good to watch on TV.

Spent nine hours at the race track on Sunday watching all the races – Bone Stock, V8 Stock, Super Stock, Trucks and the big 100 lap Late Models. Rick came in second in his truck race and third in the bone stock. Great job, Rick.
