Myself, Travis Nikin and Jim Long had the chance to umpire in a very well run tournament on Saturday. It was the 8th annual slo-pitch tournament put on by Oxford Reformed Christian School. The proceeds go for the operating fund for Christian Education. The tournament was comprised of 17 divisions split into competitive and recreational divisions. The teams came from Brantford, Oxford and Elgin Counties.

Last week's Sammy's Fun Puzzle winner was Connor Smith who answered correctly Willy and Phil Robertson using the names Phil Durham, Willy Bueckert and Shane Robertson found in the write-up.

This week's Sammy's Puzzle is: "He's Ben Affleck's buddy."

Clue - He played in a very recent Academy Award nominated movie.

Men's A

Haines Roofing continues to lead the pack as they threw up two more wins last week. They had a mercy over B's Ontario laser Spartans and beat Maple View Variety by five.

Robert Q Travel won over a short-handed Gators squad while Maple View came from behind to knock off B's first place GC Lounsbury.

IC Waters put a beating on Survivors, and Survivors evened their week's record with an easy win in an interlocking game with Corey's Restaurant.

IC Waters 29, Survivors 17

Steve Leacock homered twice, doubled and scored six runs to lead IC Waters.

Robert Q Travel 13, Gators 6

Robert Q - Billy Wilson (4-5), Darren Pace (4-5)

Gators - Matt Helinak (3-3), Dave Hodges (4-5)

A seven-run second keyed Robert Q's victory against a short-handed Gators squad, Bryan Deblaire had a two-run triple in the rally.

Survivors 21, Corey's Restaurant 1

Survivors - Martin Klassen (4-4), Pete Fehr (3-3), Johnny Klassen HR

Corey's - Craig Boucher (3-3), Mike Mesquita (3-3)

Survivors plated seven in three of their four at-bats, Martin Klassen drove in a run in three of his four at-bats.

Haines Roofing 22, Ontario Laser Spartans 5

Haines - Kevin Harrop (4-4), Steve Balazs (3-3), Tyler Lamb 2 HRs, Phil Durham 2 HRs, John Ralf 2 HRs, Dave Phillips HR

Ontario Laser - Jake Friesen (2-2), Jim Rutledge (2-3), Corny Krahn HR, Dan Blatz HR, Rick Wiebe HR

Tyler Lamb and Phil Durham each homered twice and doubled for Haines.

Maple View - John Epp (4-4) HR, Ian Baker (3-3)

Haines went out to an early nine-run lead en route to the win. Dave Phillips and Phil Durham had homers early.

Maple View Variety 14, GC Lounsbury 10

Maple View - Ian Baker (2-3), Matt Ungar (2-3)

GC Lounsbury - Greg Onaitis (3-4), Colin McDonald (3-3), Trevor Stuyt HR

Maple View came from behind and scored seven in the sixth to steal this one away. Andy Lockstein's double was the only extra base hit in the rally.

Men's B

GC Lounsbury held off a late charge from second-place Ontario Laser Spartans to edge them out although being out homered 5-1.

Kekambas beat Corey's Restaurant by six, Hounds picked up the other divisional win defeating Kirwin And Oatman.

Hounds 11, Kirwin and Oatman 3

Kirwin Oatman - Matt Davis (3-3), Steve Smith (3-4), Shane Hall HR

Hounds led by just one heading into the bottom of the sixth, their bats came alive and they plated seven with Barry Howick capping off the rally with a home run.

Kekambas 19, Corey's Restaurant 13

Kekambas - Travis Horvath (3-3) HR, Brandon Rohrer (3-3) HR

Corey's - Craig Boucher (4-4), Jake Dorland (2-3)

Travis Horvath and Brandon Rohrer each scored four runs for Kekambas.

GC Lounsbury 14, Ontario Laser Spartans 13

GC Lounsbury - Cory Smith (3-3), Stephen Deblaire (3-3) HR

Ontario Laser - Corny Krahn (4-4) HR, Abe Krahn HR, Martin Klassen HR, Jim Rutledge HR, Johnny Krahn HR, Rick Wiebe HR

GC gave up five second-inning runs but were able to take this one by one.

Men's C

Pelicans have taken over the division after posting mercies over Rooks & Vets and D's Falcons. Rooks & Vets bounced back with a come from behind win over D's John Beere. Hit N Run scored three late to defeat Norox Basement Applications after mercying D's Boston Pizza earlier in the week.

Norox - Mike Schmeltz (3-3), Brent O'Brien (3-4)

David Enns' two-run double won it for Hit N Run in the seventh.

Pelicans 23, Falcons 8

Falcons - Jamie Dyck (3-3), Willy Bueckert (3-3)

Kevin Buchner scored four runs for Pelicans.

Rooks & Vets 22, John Beere 13

Rooks - Denis Lenane (5-5), Bryan Granger (5-5)

John Beere - Chris Fisher (4-4), Shawn Sivyer (3-3), Stephen Hawel HR, Andrew Barnim HR

Rooks outscored John Beere 13-0 after the third inning.

Pelicans 23, Rooks & Vets 1

Pelicans - Adam Jensen (5-5), Benson Howey (5-5), Andrew Dawson HR, Brad VanPuymbroeck HR

Rooks - Christian Crossett (2-2), Bob Long (2-2)

Everyone in the Pelicans line-up had at least two hits. Adam Jensen scored five runs.

Hit N Run 21, Boston Pizza 5

Hit N Run - Diedrich Klassen (4-4) HR, Isaac Ungar (3-3)

Boston Pizza - Spencer Meron (3-3), Adam Devlin (2-2), Mitch Allbright HR

Diedrich Klassen was a force with a homer, two triples and a double, while driving in nine for the winners.

Men's D

Diamond Dogs continue to mow down opponents as they knocked off second place Ward's Automotive from the C loop and then mercied Destroyers.

Boston Pizza beat second-place John Beere by eight. Destroyers pulled an upset edging out C's Norox Basement Applications by one despite playing with just eight.

Norox - Mike Schmeltz (4-4), Sean Robertson (4-4)

Destroyers scored 12 over their last two at-bats.

Boston Pizza 15, John Beere 7

John Beere - John Nichols (2-3), Jesse Anderson (2-3)

Boston Pizza scored 14 of their 15 runs over three innings.

Diamond Dogs 19, Ward's Automotive 14

Dogs - Dave Phipps (3-3), Andrew Patenaude (3-3), Lee Jenzen HR, Doug Falkins HR, Frank Zarb HR

Ward's - Mike Mudford (3-4), Ryan Bruckler (3-4), Trevor Hawley HR, Pat MacElhone HR

The game was close until the sixth when Diamond Dogs plated six. Frank Zarb had a two-run homer in the rally.

Destroyers - Dave Lockstein (2-3), Matt Scott (1-2)

Doug Falkins and Andrew Patenaude were each a triple shy of hitting for the cycle for the winners.

Ladies A

Indigo Lounge got into the win column twice last week. They had a close one through six against Orange before erupting for a plethora of runs in the seventh. They had an easier time in a win over Ritchie's.

First-place Corey's Restaurant won in five over Cleats. Service Master had a walk-off win against Energy Productions and beat Dean Masson Construction.

Hollister Kia also won in the seventh against EMI Steelerz. They also had an easy win over Cleats.

Jays won a close one over Kia, and beat Ritchie's before losing to Orange Crush.

Janet Culliton scored four runs for Corey's.

Ritchie's - Holley Dayman (1-3), Ashley Aker (3-4)

Kristen Cadotte was a double shy of hitting for the cycle for Jays.

Orange Crush 12, Jays 3

Orange - Candi Obar (4-4), Stacy Lauwerier (3-4)

Jays - Nicki Shewan (4-4), Suzy Buy (2-3)

Orange put this one away with a six-run sixth. Candi Obar scored three runs.

Jays 8, Hollister Kia 6

Kia - Jen Lee (4-4), Danielle Swart (3-4)

Jays broke up a close game in the fourth rallying to score four.

Service Master 12, Dean Masson Construction 3

Eight of the nine Service Master batters scored at least one run.

Hollister KIA 21, Cleats 5

Jess Salverda, Jen Cadman and Mandi Howe hit triples for the winners.

Service Master 12, Energy Productions 11

Energy - Kim Gillis (4-4), Melissa Douglas (4-4)

In an exciting extra-inning game Becky Dancy had the walk-off base hit for Service Master in the eighth.

Hollister KIA 11, EMI Steelerz 10

EMI - Tracey Coderre (4-4), Deanna Littler (3-4)

Kia won it in the seventh on Kate Dedrick's sacrifice fly.

Indigo Lounge 26, Orange Crush 9

Indigo - Mary Boldt (4-5), Kim Harrop (5-5), Kaitlin Anseeuw 2 HRs

Orange - Candi Obar (3-3), Steph Nevins (2-3)

The game was tied at nine after six complete. Indigo plated 15 in the seventh to take it.

Ladies B

Pitch won their first ever game, a six-run decision over Cleats.

Farmers Daughters had a big win over EMI Steelerz while Dean Masson beat Pitch to round out the division action.

Aggie Dyck homered and drove in four for Farmers Daughters.

Cleats - Heidi Hopper (3-3), Christy Friesen (2-3)

Britt Sandham and Erica Thompson each scored three runs for Pitch in their first win.

Dean Masson Construction 21, Pitch 6

Pitch - Kristen Cornellie (3-3), Britt Ronson (3-3)

Jess Cotton crossed four times for Dean Masson.
