Langton offers innovative skating program

Article content

In what is thought to be a first time partnership between a figure skating and minor hockey club, the Langton Skating Club and the Langton and Area Minor Hockey Association have joined forces to form a learn to skate program to provide an affordable pathway to either hockey or figure skating.

“Learn to Skate Langton” will enable children of all ages to learn the fundamentals of skating for an affordable fee of $200 for the season running from October through to March. The program offers several benefits to children and parents. Besides the affordable cost, all that is required in terms of equipment is a pair of skates and a helmet. If a child passes the requirements of the program, they may then transfer to the Langton Skating Club pre power program or to the Langton Minor Hockey beginner program. This progression can occur within the same season, with no additional fee. The program is designed to let children develop at their own pace, with the support of skilled coaches in a fun filled environment.

The program will be run by the well-respected Langton Skating Club. There are many children that have travelled from outside of Langton to access the Langton Can Skate program run by Roxanne Koot and Tania Ghesquiere.

Parents can register their children in the program through the Langton Minor Hockey Association or the Langton Skating Club. Minor Hockey registration dates are Tuesday May 24th and Thursday, May 26th from 6.30 to 8 p.m. or Saturday, May 28th from 10 a.m. to noon.

Alternatively, registration for Langton Skating Club will be held on Wednesday August 24th and Saturday September 17. If you have any questions about the program or registration please contact Marleen VanDeWiele (Langton Skating President) at 519-875-4160 or Mike Gubesch (Langton & Area Minor Hockey President) at 519-851-7383.
