Theft of scrap metal

Oxford County OPP is investigating the theft of a scrap metal bin in Tillsonburg.

Some time between 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 and 12:15 a.m. Friday, April 1, suspects entered the yard of Marwood Metal Fabrication on Spruce Street.

Investigation revealed that a white Mack roll-off style truck entered the property and loaded the recycling bin on to the truck. A second SUV-type vehicle was stationed as a lookout in the area and at least one male suspect exited the vehicle and stood watch while the theft took place. The roll off truck, SUV, and the male suspect then left the property southbound on Bell Mill Sideroad.

The bin is described as blue in colour with Gerdau written in white letters on the side (the bin is owned by Gerdau Ameristeel Logistics). It is 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, 5 feet in height. Value of the bin is approximately $5,500-$6,500.

The bin contained various scrap metal with an approximate value of $1,500-5,000.

Oxford OPP is continuing to investigate the theft.

The OPP are asking residents to be vigilant in recognizing suspicious people or vehicles that are in your neighborhoods. It is important for this information to get to police when the suspects may still be in the area.
