Up Periscope - Port Burwell theatre group gets its own 'harbour'

On February 12, the Periscope Playhouse theatre group became the proud owner of a permanent home in Port Burwell.

After five years of determined efforts by volunteers, it now has its own professional home base to serve its steadily growing membership.

The new building, to be known as the "Periscope Playhouse Cultural Centre," is located at 42 Wellington Street on the east side of town across from the Royal Canadian Legion Hall.

The Centre is an ideal size and configuration for live performances. It will feature theatre-style tiered seating providing a commanding view of the stage, which should feel within reach of every patron in attendance. To complement the seating arrangement, the stage design and placement will allow significant flexibility for the performances and performers, helping to bring the shows to life for the audience.

The building will have multi-use capability for other activities such as meetings, public speaking, educational seminars and presentations requiring proper audio visual capabilities, acoustics and lighting.

Periscope Playhouse president Grahame Notman stated “All of us at the Periscope Playhouse are incredibly excited about the possibilities the Centre will provide. We have had tremendous support from the community, and the positive attitude and excitement surrounding the purchase is exactly what we need to fuel our clean-up, renovations and production activities. I would like to personally thank everyone who believed this could be done.”

The Periscope Playhouse looks forward to meeting you all at the Centre, to laugh together at one of their future productions.
