CNN is better than the movies.

I don’t tell many people this but I love to watch CNN and I usually have it on when I am home. They are so entertaining and a whole lot funnier than most sitcoms. Also more dramatic than a lot of the more serious shows on TV. They have lost their status as a genuine or meaningful news channel for me because they only cover one thing at a time and right now it’s the election campaign. Oh, they do throw in a minute or two, every three or four hours, of the latest ISISL news, the finding of the plane part or the OJ knife fiasco.

As if Donald Trump isn’t enough of a party the Republican big wigs decide to bring in a few more cases of beer and bottles of liquor to enhance the festivities. There is a smoldering stump of dissatisfaction and distrust so they decide to pour some gasoline on it.

We all know that if your daughter thinks she is in love with the local bad boy and you try to break them up it will only solidify her feelings. If your son is dating someone you are not too eager to welcome into the family and you point out all that is wrong with her, he will rise to her defense and become even more enamoured of her. This is a fact. The tear down approach never works.

Does the RNC really think those who are attracted to Trump will be dissuaded by spewing out everything they think is wrong with him? What is more likely to happen is they will become even more firmly in support of him. Those on the fence will probably become angry at that approach and swing over to the dark side. As will those who were still a bit hesitant when they hear how plans are afoot to get rid of him even if he is the chosen one.

All that is hilarious to watch in itself but even more so because of how many different ways the journalists try to spin each comment, salvo, insult, look, or silliness the participants create. It is amazing to see how each commentator covers the same stuff over and over again.

What is really scary to me is why Trump is the leader of pack. All those folks who support him agree with what he says and does. They appreciate his candor and his brashness. They comment often on how he says it like it is and expresses how they feel and think.

With that said we can only assume that many people think it’s OK to denigrate women, to say hurtful and nasty things about them, and to ridicule them on their looks. All those people also think it’s acceptable to make fun of the disabled and disadvantaged. They obviously believe, as he does, that discrimination based on religion, race, or ethnicity is noble. Supporters must also think it virtuous to call people names, threaten, bully and belittle all who disagree with them. How about disparaging veterans and their service? Or the inhuman treatment of prisoners of war? All good, right?

So he leads the race because so many people think like he does. That is so very frightening, to me.
