Tillsonburg Firefighters Association and Scotiabank presented a cheque for $5,100 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada Monday afternoon at the the Tillsonburg Fire Hall

"Scotiabank also generates money and contributes to the Boot Drive campaign for MD Canada," said Dave Metselaar, co-chair of the Firefighters Association MD Canada committee with Barry Lasook.

"We did it together," said Dave Abrams from Scotiabank Tillsonburg, nodding toward their extra-large cheque.

John Boe, Ontario Fire Fighter Advisor for Muscular Dystrophy Canada (representing Elgin, Essex and Oxford Counties), and Carrie Gibson, Coordinator of Revenue Development for Firefighters for MD Canada, were both hand for Monday's presentation.

A local boot drive for MS has been held annually for at least seven or eight years, said Lasook.

Typically held on a Saturday morning in November (Nov. 7 this year), firefighters held out their boots for donations at various locations around town, including Tim Hortons.

"We weren't stopping traffic on the streets this year," noted Metselaar.

When drivers hear the firefighters are collecting for Muscular Dystrophy, Metselaar said most people dump their change into the boots.

"We have almost everybody contributing in town," said Lasook.

Muscular Dystrophy is the firefighters' charity of choice, said Metselaar. 2015 was the 61th anniversary of firefighters raising money for Muscular Dystrophy.
