Making Christmas special for everyone is at the heart of four Angel Trees unveiled Friday in locations across Oxford County.

“We’re just trying to help families get through Christmas; it is a difficult time of year for many families,” explained Denise Tew, an executive assistant with the Children’s Aid Society of Oxford County (CAS).

The four Angel Trees are located at the CAS building and Giant Tiger in Woodstock, Tremblett’s Your Independent Grocer store in Ingersoll and Sobey’s in Tillsonburg.

In total there will be about 700 angel referral tags on the trees which local residents who wish to help out can choose from.

The tags are for children and families in the community who are receiving services from CAS.

“It’s to just make sure Christmas is special,” said Ron Archer, co-ordinator of development for CAS. “Because Christmas is special.”

Archer also volunteers as Santa Claus at local events to raise money for the CAS endowment fund, which is used to fund post secondary education for children in care.

On the individualized tags are listed everything from toys, diapers and baby formula, to snowsuits, colouring books and a pink fuzzy bathrobe.

The expectation is that people not buy everything on the list,” Tew said. “Surprises are also welcome too.”

Tew said the campaign starts early and the gifts have to be dropped off at CAS building located at 712 Peel Street or other Angel Tree host locations by Dec. 4 in order for them to be distributed to the families on time.

Angel Tree tags can be registered at the Angel Tree.

Gifts should be unwrapped but gift bags are welcome.
