CCW's Mighty Minis at the Delhi Fall Fest Saturday

Classic Championship Wrestling returns to the Tillsonburg area for the first time this year with a Saturday, Sept. 19 show at the 2nd annual Delhi Fall Fest.

"It's going to be an afternoon show this year, we're at 2 p.m.," noted CCW's Jay McDonald, originally from Tillsonburg, now living in Delhi. "It will be the same location, behind the Kinsmen Hall, beside the Independent Grocery Store just off the main street."

There will be some bleacher seating, said McDonald, but he recommends bringing chairs.

Classic Championship Wrestling will be providing a free show for Fall Fest participants, but McDonald noted there will be someone at the gate seeking donations for admission.

"Donations are encouraged, for two reasons. One, to help keep the Fall Fest going, and two, because you're going to get one heck of a wrestling show for some pocket change if you can afford it. It's going to be very much appreciated and keep the wrestling at the festival. Sometimes people take these festivals for granted, but there's a lot of work and money that goes into it to make it happen."

There are six matches on Saturday's card, CCW's standard fair and festival format, which lasts about 90 minutes.

"We found it was perfect in that setting. When we first starting doing these we were doing two hour shows. Too long... too long in a festival-fair setting. One and a half hours is perfect."

The Main Event will be a massive match between Cody Deaner and Delhi native The Freak Show, who will take a walk on the dark side managed by Evilyn.

"We did that last year with Freak Show and Evilyn and it was awesome," said McDonald. "Both of them and are retired from wrestling, but they agreed to do the Delhi Fall Fest for us again. So that's fantastic."

Deaner and Freak Show have been two of McDonald's biggest stars since he started his professional wrestling company in Tillsonburg almost 10 years ago.

"This will be the first and only time they will ever square off in the ring."

While Deaner spent most of his career in Tillsonburg as a 'good guy', he was on the other side during CCW's last season in town. Freak was always a local good guy, not counting his hilarious Skeletor matches.

"This will be the one and only time we're going to see Freak Show as a heel against Deaner," said McDonald. "I promise it will be very entertaining. You're going to see a lot of comedy and a lot of entertaining spots in it. This is three of my favourite characters all coming together in one match."

Other highlights include the Mighty Minis, Pepper Jack and Kid Canuck.

"Ontario hasn't really had little people in the ring in the past 10 years. Farmer Pete, who I did have wrestling in Delhi. But it was difficult to get any actual wrestling action. These two guys are younger and their wrestling skills are amazing."

Kid Canuck has been training with CCW in Delhi since February.

"Now he'll do cross-bodies off the top turnbuckle to the outside, suicide dives, superplexes (suplex off the top rope). It'll just blow your mind how agile they are and the skills they bring the wrestling ring. They're saying, 'hey, we're wrestlers too and we want to show you we can wrestle."

McDonald said Pepper Jack and Kid Canuck, managed and trained by Bloody Bill Scullion, had about a dozen bookings over the summer, and their confidence in the ring has taken off.

"The past two weekends, we've gone to a tag team match with a little guy and big guy vs little guy and big guy. The Mighty Minis have been a really great addition to our fair shows."

AMAZING RACE WRESTLER

"Asylum will be wrestling in Delhi," said McDonald, excited to have a contestant from The Amazing Race – Canada, aka Nick Foti, who races with wrestler Matt Giunta.

"Everybody asks them about it all the time, but they keep it tight-lipped. I booked him while they were still filming it, and he said I still want the bookings, but I have to make it tentative because if Amazing Race wants me to do PR for them, that's going to take precedence. It did cost me two dates, but it's good to have them on board. That's one of CTV's top shows."

Both Foti and Giunta wrestled for CCW over the summer, but only Asylum will be at Delhi.

"He's fantastic," said McDonald.

A ladies match will feature CCW champion Persephone Vice and Holly Madison.
