Live music Thursdays at Roho's Bar & Grill

Article content

Roho's Bar and Grill, on Broadway in Tillsonburg, will be showcasing live music Thursdays at 9 p.m.

The bands for August 6th will be Antibliss, from the Woodstock-Toronto areas, and Waves to Shore from St. Thomas.

"Antibliss, they're like shoegaze. That's their genre, what they like to be called," said Blacktop Records' Ben Andress, describing it as grunge or alternative rock. "Comparable to Nirvana in a way, but a little more friendlier.

"We're starting to do at least one Thursday a month (at Roho's)," said Andress, "and this is our first. They've had live music before, but they've been kind of few and far between."

Andress said the plan is to set up a regular Thursday night venue for live music.

"We want people to say, 'hey we can go here and check out new bands for free. Usually there's a cover, but we've been able to work something out.

"It gives the bands a place to come and showcase their new music. Both of these bands have new EPs that have just been released. This a good way for local bands to get their music out there.

"For people who are discouraged by paying $5 or $10 to see bands they've never heard of, or a band they've seen a bunch of times before, this gives them a chance to say 'hey, it's free, why not?' That's kind of cool."

Other bands who may appear at Roho's at some point include Shades of Norris, Crossley Hunter and Smile Case.

For more info on the Roho's shows, contact Andress at mgmt@blacktoprecords.ca or follow Blacktop Records on Facebook.

"If there's any local bands – or out-of-town bands – interested in playing in any of these showcases, leave me a message. I do other shows and tours as well throughout southern Ontario, so if anyone reaches out we'll definitely find them a spot and pair them up with a band that's pretty rad and have a fun night."

Andress also noted a Crossley Hunter CD release show coming up on Saturday, August 29 at the Tillsonburg Legion. Ticket information to be released soon.

"It'll be a special CD release show in town."
