Another year of growth for Tillsonburg Adult Rec Soccer League

Article content

The Tillsonburg Minor Soccer Outdoor Adult Rec League has experienced another year of growth. Each year new players join the league, which has grown from six teams just a few years ago to over 12 this summer!

For 2015, the Adult Rec League is split into two divisions - A Division for the more competitive/skilled adult soccer players and B Division, which is for the recreational adult player who just wants to have fun, and play some soccer.

A Division Games will be played on intermediate sized fields (Fields 7 and 8) this summer to allow for seven versus seven play, and the B Division Games will be played on mini-sized fields (Fields 1, 2, 3, 4) to allow for six versus six play.

Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. was the first night of league games, and thanks to the breeze it was quiet warm night for late May.

A Division

First Step Travel 3, Poultry Specialties 2

This game was very tight with outstanding goaltending on both sides of the pitch. Brandon Koppert and Darryl Price look like they are going to be tough to beat all summer long. This matchup was not settled until the final minutes of the game with a great goal by Mirjan Noorland to settle things.

Pettman Auctioneering 8, Queens Café 4

The first half was back and forth with Steve Kapolnas from Queens scoring two fantastic goals. Argi Mollaj kept Pettman’s in the game with three in the first half displaying some very creative footwork. The second half featured great ball control/passing with Jenn Pathy netting two goals. This was a much closer game than reflected on the game sheet.

B Division

Ostrander’s 8, Danbrook Automotive 0

We could tell that this team has played together for a while, the experience of the Ostrander's team really showed in this game. The Jelsmas, Brian and Penny, combined for two goals each, and Ken Butcher earned the shutout.

Tillsonburg Glass 5, Just For Fun 1

This match featured an outstanding effort by Gilbert McClatchie in first half netting two markers, before suffering a serious injury – get better soon Gilbert! In the second half Ivan Hernandez got two and Adrian Aarnoudse another. Chris Black was able to put one in the second half for Just for Fun.

Barely Legal FC 6, iFourone 0

This is another one of our teams that has played together for a few years. Rob Daniel played really strong to earn the shut out with a solid defensive effort supporting him. It was 3-0 with goals from the Hawels, Angie and Marty, and a single from Tony Sulkowski. Curtis Wray notched three goals in the 2nd half to complete the game.

Flooring Canada 8, Courtland Vinyl 2

For a group of people that have never played together before, the Flooring Canada team sure looked strong. They had goals from six different players – Catherine Ypma, Shane Allen, Joe Oliveira, and Ron Smith each had one. Seb Fardella and Darren Jayne each netted two. Garrett Pelleboer put one in the first half, followed by Ben Gavey in the 2nd half.
