What is important to you? What I think is of major significance may not be of any consequence to the rest of you, and I may not feel what carries the most weight to you has much value at all. Either way, it does not diminish the actual importance of what we each believe.

To some it’s important to have a weed-free lawn. Some find symmetry to be essential when decorating. We all have our own idea of which charity deserves our financial assistance. Whether it be animals for some, children for others, or the arts or medical issues – all are fundamental for our survival.

The safety and survival of ourselves and our family is the most important for all of us and yet so many people take their own life for granted and also gamble with the existence of the rest of us. Some people still feel they are so vital, so critical to the world they can thumb their nose at the law.

We have all seen the devastating effects texting, or even talking on a cell phone while driving, has had on families. Many of us have lost friends and relatives because someone believed they needed instant and constant connection, that their attention was deemed necessary every minute of the day. Most of us are just not that important.

It doesn’t matter where or when you are out driving you will see all kinds of folks on their cell phones. Maybe you are one of them. Maybe you don’t care if you have a serious accident possibly damaging yourself for life or even ending your life but what about those you leave behind. Do you want to do that to them? And what about the other people you could involve in that accident? They do care about what happens to them. Get over yourself and stop it!

Do you suppose there are other things that could be as distracting as a cell phone? I know some say talking with a passenger or singing to the radio may divert your attention from the road. Or how about kids in the back seat? Well, I guess that is true but common sense has to prevail.

The other day as I was driving in town I noticed a lady looking down as she was driving. I assumed she was texting and it angered me since she was coming towards me and could quite easily have crossed the yellow line causing me to be in an accident. As she passed by me, not only did I see she was doing something below window level, there was also a small dog on her lap moving from side to side to look out the windows and licking the woman’s face.

Now I don’t know about you, but that is an accident waiting to happen. We have laws to make sure our kids are buckled in and I think maybe we need to have animals caged if they are in a vehicle with us. Having them roaming from front to back and up on the driver is sheer insanity.

Get off the road, I value my survival.
