Tillsonburg Kinsmen win Southern Counties A Championship

Article content

Tillsonburg Kinsmen Midgets faced a very determined Ingersoll team in the Southern Counties championship game Sunday in Six Nations.

A very tight hockey game saw Tillsonburg trailing 1-0 going into the third period. A hard forecheck on the first shift of the third resulted in a Grayden Sinden equalizer assisted by Seth Lamoure.

Tillsonburg began to carry the play and had several good scoring chances. With just under seven minutes left Sinden sent a Thomas Laur chip out up ice to a streaking Alex Sutherland. Sutherland made a nifty drive to the net and fooled the keeper with a short side wrist shot that put his team in the lead 2-1.

"The goal by Alex was clutch it was all made possible by good puck movement and of course a great finish," said Kinsmen coach Drew Sinden.

Alex and Gray combined for the league winner in Peewee, and at the Midget level Sunday.

"I guess I should have played them together more," said coach Sinden. "We got really good goaltending in the last two games and a huge effort from everyone. The team had a really good season with just some unfortunate hurdles along the way.

"They played the right way all year and I am thrilled for them that they could end for many what is their last year of Tillsonburg hockey as champions. I think we have a collective six OMHA championships amongst this group of players and several league titles. They have certainly represented our town and our association well on and off the ice.

"I couldn't be prouder."
