April is Oral Health month and Oxford County Public Health is running our social media photo contest again to promote oral health education.

For the month of April, participants are encouraged to submit a photo posing with a cartoon “smiley” cut-out to the Facebook event page (Oral Health Month 2015).

“We brought this social media contest back for a second year after we saw that using humour and fun to promote oral health was both effective and engaging," said Susan MacIsaac, Manager, Health Promotion, Public Health & Emergency Services in a media release. "Maintaining healthy teeth and gums really is one of the most important things you can do for your health so we encourage everyone to participate again.”

The contest emphasizes that as part of a healthy lifestyle and to help reduce the risk of oral disease, there are three simple tips to achieve good oral health.

- Brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

- Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.

- Visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.

The contest ends May 18 and all photo entries are entered to a random draw for a chance to win a prize. To enter the contest, or to read full contest details and submission rules, go to the Oral Health Month Facebook event.
