Bus driver charged in collision

A school bus driver was charged this week following a collision in downtown Tillsonburg.

The Lang school bus was carrying 22 elementary students Friday morning when it came to a stop at the intersection of Concession Street and Bidwell Street. The northbound bus then turned east onto Concession Street. In doing so, the bus collided with a car that was also eastbound.

No one on the bus was injured. The car required a tow from the scene while the bus received minor damage.

The driver of the school bus – Darla Hallihan, 51, of Tillsonburg, was charged with the Highway Traffic Act offence of making an unsafe start from a stop sign.

This is the second collision in the local area involving a school bus this month. Feb. 3, no one was hurt when a bus from Sharp Bus Lines in Simcoe was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the Burford-Delhi Townline Road at the intersection of the Windham West Quarter Line.

In that incident, the Brantford woman at the wheel of the bus was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
