Tillsonburg Underhill's Farm Supply AEs were downright defensive on the weekend.

"They're really coming together," said Underhill's Farm Supply AE peewee coach Mike Fulkerson after Sunday's championship win at the TMHI Bob Tansley Memorial AE Hockey Tournament, co-sponsored by Dodsley Propane and Dowler-Karn of Tillsonburg.

Tillsonburg tied once, and won the rest in the tourney, shutting out Ilderton 7-0 and Duffield 5-0. The Tornadoes also edged Collingwood 2-1 and tied Port Hope – the team they met again in Sunday's final – 1-1 Saturday morning.

"We're getting very balanced scoring," said Fulkerson.

The AE peewees, comprised of about 50-50 in first and second year players, have also been competitive in Southern Counties, he said, with an early 6-2 record.

"We've had a really good run, that was probably our sixth or seventh win in a row."

Sunday's championship was not their first hardware won this year. The team also finished second in a Erin.

"Halton Hills area, played well in that tournament too," said Fulkerson, noting the team is gearing up for the Silver Stick competition in early December.

"When we're playing our game – which is pressuring the puck – they do well."

Defensively, said Fulkerson, they have one blue-liner who has never played defence before.

"I think we got three shutouts in the tournament (including Sunday's 3-0 final over Port Hope), and we allowed two goals in five games. So... that's pretty good. Can't complain about that."

Port Hope provided good competition both games, he said.

"We tied them, the 3-0 there. They gave us everything we could handle."

The difference, he said, was not being tired.

"This wasn't our second or third game of the day. And it was their second game of the day."

Tillsonburg will be at Twin Centre for their Silver Stick qualifier.
