Car collides with farm machinery

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a passenger car and farm tractor that occurred Thursday, Nov. 13, at approximately 6:23 p.m.

The collision occurred on Nova Scotia Line, approximately 10 miles east of Richmond Road, Municipality of Bayham. The farm tractor, a 2010 John Deere 9332, was traveling east on Nova Scotia Line pulling a piece of farm machinery (John Deere 2720 Disk Ripper) when a 2006 Chrysler 300 traveling west on Nova Scotia Line collided with the disk ripper. The car then travelled into the south ditch and struck a hydro pole.

The adult male and lone occupant of the car – Alan James Hollywell, 63 of Port Burwell – was pronounced dead at the scene. A port mortem examination was scheduled Friday morning.

The driver of the farm tractor, a 17-year-old male from the Municipality of Bayham was uninjured in the collision.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators were on scene assisting with the investigation to determine a cause for the collision. Nova Scotia Line was expected to remain closed between Carter Road and Mitchell Road until approximately 3 a.m. Friday morning.
