Serious collision on Hwy 3 in Bayham

Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle collision which occurred on Highway 3 just east of Springer Hill Road, Municipality of Bayham.

The collision occurred early Thursday morning at approximately 6:35 a.m. and involved a head-on collision between a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck.

At the time of the collision a Grey 2007 Chevy Silverado was traveling east on Highway 3 when it crossed over the centre line and collided head on with a westbound Peterbuilt Tractor Trailer.

The driver and lone occupant of the pick-up truck, a 51-year-old Simcoe man had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported by land ambulance to hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver and lone occupant of the tractor trailer, a 54-year-old Dutton/Dunwich man was not injured in the collision.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators are currently on scene assisting with the investigation which is ongoing. At this point a cause for the collision has not yet been determined.

Traffic is currently being detoured around the collision scene at Heritage Line and Culloden Road. The road is anticipated to remain closed until approximately 2 p.m. to facilitate the investigation and clean-up of the collision scene.
