Speaking of cleaning the computer… just in case you wondered, I didn’t buy the cleaning program, deciding my 14,000 odd viruses were living compatibly somewhere in my computer so instead I cleaned out the diagnosis site - for free.

I don’t think I will worry about all those Russians trying to hack into people’s computer’s either. I am sure I am of no value to them.

I did worry about some bank robber at large in my little, quiet, peaceful village last Friday afternoon. Missed the whole thing because I was out cutting the grass but did hear all about it from a first-hand witness to the goings on. Apparently, we had the swat team, canine unit, CSI section and tactical unit hit town in full force in full regalia and carrying big guns.

It was all a little unsettling since they didn’t catch the guy so we didn’t know if he was hiding in our garages, sheds or skulking around outside our homes. We didn’t know if he was armed, still in the area or had a car stashed on one of the back streets, possibly with an accomplice/get-away car driver.

I was going out later in the afternoon so when I heard about it I searched my house completely – don’t know what I would have done if I found him. I closed and locked all the windows and doors. I didn’t search the outbuildings. When I left I turned on front and back outdoor lights, several lamps inside and left the TV on.

It was late when I arrived home. The next door neighbour came to meet me in the yard. I asked if they had caught the bad guy. He said they hadn’t but the police were in town because there had been a rash of break-ins. Ryan was checking to see who was driving in my driveway at that hour since my van was home. Nice to know folks are looking out for each other. It was very reassuring.

And it’s a good argument for the village needing a police presence all the time. The OPP are suggesting they may not patrol the village on a consistent basis sending out officers only when called. That pretty much opens us up for more of these kinds of incidents. I would think the bank robber was long gone before the police arrived as were the home invaders. Leaving a community on its own, unprotected, is a very irresponsible way to police. We were lucky no one was hurt but that may not always be the case. Having a police presence would protect our belongings and quite likely save lives by helping to prevent crimes as well as having a more immediate response time.

I hope this proves the police service needs to rethink this latest proposal and abandon the idea of abandoning us.
